I Lied About My Identity After Getting Caught Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia
Okay, so the first day of 8th grade, (I know, I'm pretty young) me and my best friend went shopping after school for clothes. We had a few extra minutes before our ride would be there, and stopped by Spencers. It was my other friend's birthday that same day so I decided to get her a rosta colored lanyard, but was a few dollars short. I thought about it, and figured if I tried to take it, I could probably get away with it. So I tore the tag off, and stuffed it into my pocket. We were walking out when one of the workers stopped me right after I had exited and said, "Oh, we need our necklace back". I was terrified, so I acted like I had no idea what he was talking about, but he told me to give it to him, and being completely horrified and not thinking "Oh, I could just pretend I didnt hear him" I went back into the store and told him I didnt know what he was talking about. He told me he saw me put it in my pocket, and said if I would just give it back to him he would let me go.. but he didnt. He told me to follow him to a back room and made me sit in this super uncomfortable chair and asked his co-worker if she had called the police, at that point I was shaking. I was really nervous and felt like I was going to puke. He asked me for all of my information and I lied about all of it.. My last name, date of birth, address, school, all that stuff. I told him my mother was my best friend's mom and that she was my step sister, I also told him that their address was mine. I had never gotten into legal trouble before, never done anything to get in trouble for, so I had no idea what more trouble I was putting myself in. My mother still has no idea, and it happened a week ago. I haven't gotten a letter with a court date but they said they are pressing charges. I'm 13 years old, honor-student, with a clean record. I'm hoping that I will just have to pay a fine, which is simple, I can do that. But people have said that I might have to do community service and that if I do, it will be alternative school, which I can not afford to do. What's going to happen? Is there any way I can persuade them not to send me to alternative school if they decide to? Does anyone even know whats going to actually happen? I need advice, and I need it quick.

They will likely give the police a picture of you and you will be arrested by your school resource officer. It might take them a bit to hit the honors classes as few thieves tend to be intelligent.

How about going to mommy and coming clean?
