How to Answer a Divorce Complaint
My question involves a marriage in the state of: Michigan

I have a question because I am not sure where to go or if an attorney needs to be involved. I myself have not gone through a divorce my husband passed away 1 1/2 years ago. I have a friend after 28 years of marriage was kicked out of the house and has moved in with me since New Years. Just a week ago his wife finally file the divorce papers and he received by mail. When he responds back to the court on the things that he would like to get out of the house is there a form that needs to be fill out or is a letter requesting what he would like good enough? Time and money is very limited because he is unemployed right now also and his wife so to be ex does not have money for an attorney either. So how is the best way to respond back to the court and fight for basically personal items she would not let him get out of house before?

Unfortunately, there's no way anybody here can give him step by step instructions.

All I can suggest is that he check out Michigan Legal Help's website and study up on the forms and procedures:

    http://www.michiganlegalhelp.org/self-help-tools/family

There are other resources listed on the main page:

    http://www.michiganlegalhelp.org/

I have to tell you, though, if he can't figure out what to do after studying the resources he is going to need a lawyer or he will get good and screwed.

Just the fact that he was "kicked out of the house" leads me to suggest that his wife has the upper hand and will rake him over the coals unless he has a lawyer.
