Cosigner's Rights When a Student Loan Borrower Refuses to Pay
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Florida

I cosigned a student loan for my Son in the late 80's. He has chosen to repay it and I cosigned. The Feds are taking a monthly payment from my Social Security every month and believe me, even the smaller amount hurts. How can I stop this? We retired to Alabama.

Your only real recourse would be to sue your son for reimbursement.

As you've discovered, the Feds can generally garnish just about anything which isn't SSI.
