Do Minors Get Criminal Records from Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

I attempted to steal an item of value of under $5 at a retail store, but the security got a hold of me. Sent me to this room where he asked for my information, he was very friendly, and he asked me if my parents are home. But they were at work and there was no way they would be able to pick me up in the time. So the security had to call a police officer to come in until my relative came to pick me up. The security made me sign a piece of paper, I'm assuming its payment to the store and not be able to come back permanently. The police office give me a slip of yellow paper which said retail theft and describing the situation and said that I'll be receiving a court date in the mail. I am deeply ashamed for my actions, but I cannot go back and change it, so I'm stuck with the consequences. This is my first offense by the way (17 years old).

    1. Will my record be clean? (After I turn 18)
    2. What will my punishment be?
    3. Will this affect how I get into college and employed?

    Re: Minor Committing Retail Theft
If you are asking whether the slate is automatically wiped clean on your 18th birthday without your having to do a thing about it, no, that's not necessarily the case.
