Responsibility for Water Leak into Unit Below That Caused Ceiling Damage
My question involves a condominium located in the State of: Illinois
I rent out my condo and have a Rental Condominium Unit Owners insurance with Statefarm insurance.
Couple of days back I received a call from my management that the water was leaking from my bathroom to the bathroom ceiling in the unit below.
Next day I had the plumber go and take a look at the ceiling of the unit below and inspect the my units bathroom. He found that toilet had developed a crack at the bottom and was the reason for it. We replaced the toilet in our unit and the leak stopped.
Now for the damage to the ceiling of the unit below, which also seems to have some mold in it, how do I go about it? Is my insurance going to take care of it? or the insurance of the owner of the affected unit will be taking care of it? Some of the other forums seem to suggest that I should just call my insurance and let them deal with the neighbour and that I am not liable for the damages since its not negligence. Please advise.

You can report the claim to your insurance company, which will tell you if you're covered.
