Repercussions from Shoplifting When You're Not Charged
My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
Was caught shop lifting a 3.00 bandage today. The lady came over to me told me to give it back and told me to get out of the store and not come back or they would have me arrested for trespassing.
They did not call the police. they didn't even hold me there. They didn't have me sign anything.. they didn't take my name, they didn't take my social security number. Nothing.
This is the first and last time I will ever do anything like this and feel very bad and embarrassed.
As long as I stay away from the store will I be fine or do I have to worry about repercussions of this in the future.
For example, could the store decide they want to press charges and track me down or send a court summons via mail through my license plate for example.
Re: Repercussions from Shoplifting When You're Not Charged
From what you have told us, there won't be any repercussions outside of the store. There is no reason to believe that the store is going to suddenly change its mind and try to prosecute you, having taken no information from you at the time you were caught. I suppose that could change if they figure out that you habitually shoplifted there, but you haven't told us anything of that sort.
