How Do You End a Common Law Marriage
My question involves a marriage in the state of: Wisconsin

My common law husband and I were married in a state that recognizes common law marriage. We moved to Wisconsin two years ago and have decided to no longer stay together. We haven't have any issues with being "married" in Wisconsin but we aren't sure how to end the marriage now. Does it need to be a court divorce or we were never really recognized as married? Thanks

If you were married, common law or through the more formal process, to end it you need an official divorce.

    Maybe...

For example, in TX, where common law marriages are recognized, if no one files in court within two years of the "end" of a common law marriage its moot. Therefore state law is going to dictate. OP needs to consult a local attorney.
