Sixteen-Year-Old Caught Shoplifting
I'm 16 years old and I was caught shoplifting in Macy's in Ohio. I stole around 265 dollars worth of stuff and I was caught on camera. They brought me back to their office and my parents came to pay a fine of 795 dollars which was the civil fee. They are prosecuting and called the cops which he took down my information and said they will send something for court in about a week. Will my current job in the same mall as Macy's be notified the I have stolen? What can I be expecting at court? I know I am very stupid and I can't believe that I would do this bringing shame on myself as we'll as my family. This is my first offense I've never been in trouble with the law before.
Re: I'm 16 and Got Caught Stealing at Macy's
$265 isn't the first time stealing - it's the first time getting caught. I don't know if your employer will be notified but it's legal if they are, and yes, they may most certainly fire you. You can write off any jobs in retail or where you'll be handling money.

Your family can help you consult a lawyer about possible ways you may be able to avoid being adjudicated a delinquent child. The court will take into consideration such factors as your home, school, community and prior police record, as well as the facts of the offense.
