Can I Be Sued for Not Paying Bills That Are Not in My Name
So basically this is my story.
My boy friend and I had moved into a 2 bedroom condo with our two other friends who were also a couple. After the first week of being there the girl roommate kicked out her boyfriend and got and order of protection from him so he wasn't allowed to be at the house. The next week rent was due and at the beginning it was gunna be 200 each person but since one roommate was gone it was gunna be 265 a person. The girl roommate could not afford rent so my boyfriend had covered for her. Not only did he do that but also paid a 20$ late fee bc she didn't turn the rent in until 5 days after it was due. The lease is In her name and so is the gas bill and the srp empower box. Through the whole month we were there she hardly ever was she only helped pay for empower twice and we were paying every other day she also was never there to help clean and never pitches in to buy groceries. After being there for a month SHE kicked us out for telling her boyfriend that she had been cheating on him with her ex and my brother. Just stupid kid drama. So we got our stuff and got out a week before rent and the gas bill were due.

What my question is what is our legal rights in having to pay a gas bill that's not in our name ? We only stayed for a month but she didn't get the gas bill till after living there for 3 months. We have no written agreement on anything we were not on the lease and none of the bills are in our name. She also didn't help with anything and kicked us out for a childish reason. Could she sue us for not paying the one months gas bill?

"gunna"? Hon, I know this is the Internet...but for the love of all things chocolatey, do at least try to form real words?

Now, politely tell the person who is on the bill, to stop contacting you. She isn't going to be successfully suing you or your boyfriend unless there's a valid agreement which holds you responsible.

(For future reference, it's also generally not a good idea to go telling tales about somebody else's love life - it is indeed high-school drama and that's where it should be left)

    Sure.

She could sue you for your share of the first month's bill.

    She'd probably win, too.

You don't have to sign an agreement to have an agreement and I'll bet you had an agreement to split expenses as well as rent.

Has absolutely nothing to do with your obligation to pay your share of the gas bill.
