Caught Shoplifting Headphones
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois
I was caught today at my local Wal-Mart with an 18 dollar pair of cheapy headphones. This is the very first time I have ever been in trouble. Never been pulled over never been talked to by a cop ever. I'm stupid I know. I was pulled to the side and asked to return the item. I did without question. Then I went to a room and gave the lady my ID. She took my number and told me there would be no criminal charges or cops. I was given a paper saying I would be getting a Civil Demand (with no idea on what the price would be.) I was allowed to go. No signing of papers and nothing else.
Will there be a chance of court and the Wal-Mart proceeding with charges even though police had not been called nor was there any admission of guilt? I plan on paying the fine in full without question as my state has a law protecting the business. Will this affect my Financial Aid for school?
Thank you in advance and yes I know I am a retard.
Re: Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart
If they send you a Civil Demand, it will be for not less $100. nor more than $1,000.
Re: Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart
That's all? Just pay the demand and it's over with?
Re: Caught Shoplifting at Wal-Mart
Why do you imagine the answer will be any different for you than for any of the other two dozen shoplifters (mostly from Walmart) that post here each week?

Asking never hurts. The lady didn't even take my social and was very kind to me. I am just going to assume the fine and move on with life and not be so stupid next time.
