It's got nothing to do with how many lawyers a company has. You could have Johnny Cochrane and they could go pro se (if that were allowed), and you'd still lose. It almost all cases, the employer is free to fire you just as you are free to quit. Nice reciprocity there.
We can't possibly answer further because you refuse to answer the basic questions put to you starting with what state this is in.

Yes, I originally came here to ask a general question. The website mentioned to be brief without details to protect the individuals identity. If 49 of the 50 states are considered 'at will' employment, it shouldn't really matter which state they are in. I was just trying to help someone get a quick answer. The venting was based on some of the replies and past experience, with the realization that going against their employer will unfortunately be a waste of time, regardless of the advice given from others that are professionals, but not in the legal field.

Some states have additional protections over and above Federal law, and specifying the state is not going to compromise your identity. But it's your choice. If you'd rather keep your state hidden then find out if there are any state laws that offer you protection, that's up to you.

Do you understand exactly what lie detector tests are looking for, and how many people have been convicted (think DNA and/or confession) after passing such a test?

Well...they're not. Because they are notoriously unreliable. SOME states will permit results of a polygraph to be testified about in front of a jury (civil cases) thus allowing the jury to come to their own conclusions about the results of the test. Dunno about your state.

If you can't bother to explain to us what is happening, you recourse would be to retain counsel who can operate under the level of confidentiality you desire.
But given the absolute lack of detail provided, the answer is YES they can and NO you have no recourse.

There are many circumstances that can give rise to legal action from wrongful termination. You could have an implied contract. If the problem was in any way gender or race related you could have a cause of action. There might be some breach of good faith. I cannot tell whether such a circumstance exists here or not because there are no details and nobody can interview you in this kind of a forum. So get an initial consultation with an employment lawyer who can ask you relevant questions and advise you on your specific situation.
