    If someone lied on a FAFSA, what is the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution?

    Obtaining federal student loan benefits is a felony punishable by a fine of $10,000 (over and above what you fraudulently took) and up to five years in jail. The government needs to commence prosecution within five years of the offense taking place.
