Does Changing a Child's Name Affect Child Support
My question involves child support in the State of: mississippi
My child is 8 years old. I have only received child support for a couple of months. I would like to change my childs last name, and if possible, have him sign rights over or give up his rights. In doing this, would i also have to surrender the order for child support? He will never agree to let me do this, but i have full custody and he has never been present in my childs life life. What steps would i need to take? How much does it cost? And what are the odds of me actually getting to change last name??
Re: Changing Childs Last Name, Would I Surrender Child Support
Name-change: probably not too difficult
Rest of it: Not. Going. To. Happen.

A court order granting a change of name has no effect on child support.
A court order terminating Dad's rights means that child support is also terminated.
But, as Doggie points out, it's not going to happen. Unless Dad is a serial killer or his presence is otherwise detrimental to the child, he's not having his rights taken away.

What would you want to accomplish by having him "sign over his rights"? What is your purpose? I ask because many people think that they need to do that what it really won't accomplish what they want to accomplish, or is totally unnecessary.
