Accused of Stealing After Moving Somebody Else's Property
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Or

I helped my sister in law move out of her home after she decided to leave her abusive husband I simply picked up the boxes from their home that she said belonged to her and placed them on a moving truck. I then moved them into storage. All of this occurred while her husband was not home, and she still had the keys to the home. When he returned that night, he called the police. Her ex husband tried to press charged against her for theft but the police said that anything in the home was martial belongings and if there wasn't a court order saying she couldn't remove the items she didn't not commit a crime. That this was a civil matter that would be decided in divorce court. At the time she told the police that I had helped her move but that we did not take anything that did not belong to her or the children. The police officer said he did not believe her husband and now had ammunition to go at him with. They left and we never heard a another thing from the police. Then he started accusing her of stealing thousands of dollars in tools from the garage and car parts and all kinds of items from the home. Items that were not taken but would have been considered marital assets as they were purchased during their marriage. No one went into his garage, or took anything that would have been a tool or car part as a woman and her kids would not need this. He started harassing her to tell him who helped her move. She never told him, so instead he pressed his 7 year old son for the name of who helped her move. He told him me and my friend helped her. He doesn't know my friends last name, so his is coming after me. When his first avenue didn't work, he deiced to call and threaten on my voice mail that he was going to go to the court and have me charged. Almost 3 weeks have passed since she moved and tonight he called and said if I didn't return his belongings by 10 am he would go down to the court and file charges. I told him I don't have his belongings and to leave me out of this mess, that it was between him and his ex-wife. He responded that he would file charges at 10 am. Not sure what I can do here. They are false charges, not even sure if the police will believe him I just don't even want any part of this mess and need to know if I should call the police first or wait and see what actually happens.

Wait and see what happens. He is probably bluffing.

It doesn't matter if SHE moved the items, or YOU moved the items under her direction. The property is STILL considered marital property and police are STILL going to tell him that it's a civil matter to be dealt with in the divorce court. And, HE doesn't "file charges". A PROSECUTOR files charges, after a police investigation gets forwarded to their office for action. All HE can do is make a complaint to police, who have already made their position clear.
