Seventeen-Year-Old Doesn't Want to Live at Home
I'll give a little bit of background before I ask my question..
I currently live with my girlfriend's family with my mother's consent and theirs also. Summer is about a week away and my girlfriend's dad would like me to leave until school starts next year. The problem is my mom wants me to go back to my hometown. Everyone there does drugs, I'll have no friends and nothing to do. From that it sounds like I'm just complaining. The other problem is my mom is a lunchlady so she won't have a job during the summer. She won't be able to take care of my sister or me. My mom's never home or she's locked in her room with her friends. I barely know her. I'm almost positive she's on some sort of heavy drug. I don't want to get the law involved and get my sister taken away from her though. I just applied for a job and I got it. I just need my SS card and she won't give it to me. Actually, she won't answer me at all anymore. I'm only 17 so I'm not sure what to do. My plan right now is to get my SS card and move in with a friend to keep my job and then go back to my girlfriend's for school. The town I'm from has like 5 places I can work at compared to Boise having almost 15-25 per 2 miles. What should I do?
Re: Idaho: I Don't Want to Live with My Mother
You don't have much choice. You are a minor and as such you live where your mother says you live. If she wants you back home for the summer, back home you go.
Re: Idaho: I Don't Want to Live with My Mother
Whatever your mother agrees to.
Re: Idaho: I Don't Want to Live with My Mother
Why not ask mom if it's okay to stay with a friend (have one lined up before the conversation)? Since she's okay with you shacking up with your girlfriend, maybe she'll be okay with that.
If she says no, you pack your bags and start looking for summer employment close to or in your hometown.

I thought so... Besides that emancipation isn't an option.

I just think it's ridiculous that I'm 17, have a job, and have to live with an unfit mother. She has no business being a parent.

I'll be 18 in november so about 5 months.

I can see that maturity runs in the family.
