Maintaining a Visa After Losing Your Scholarship
Hi,
I am an international student studying in the US on a full scholarship. This semester, I had some personal issues and I wasn't able to maintain the terms of my scholarship.
Here's my situation. I am returning home for the summer break and right now I am registered for the Fall term and in a good standing with the university. But my scholarship appeal result will be out in a couple of weeks, and if I loose the appeal, I won't be able to pay and my courses will be dropped.
So, if I loose the scholarship, what will happen in the airport when I return? Will I still be in status or out of status? What steps should I take?

will your withdrawal from the school have occurred before you leave your country?
and specifically what type of visa do you have?
Re: Scholarship Lost, What to Do
Yes, the last date to pay the dues is in July and I am coming back in August.
F1 visa
Can I apply to USCIS for off campus job on account of loss of sponsorship?
.. and I am funded by two scholarships, one I will keep and the other one is dependent on the appeal, so if I am not able to pay the rest, and the courses are dropped, will I no longer be a student in my university?
Re: Scholarship Lost, What to Do
I would say you are not coming back to the US until you manage to get your finances straight. Campus jobs are needs based and you are not guaranteed one even if they auto qualified you. Once the FAFSA's are processed in the spring, the college knows if its available job money will be gone through qualified individuals in the fall.

Then, I guess, I won't leave at all till I know everything for sure!
Re: Scholarship Lost, What to Do
Your family could come up with the funds to pay for your education just like American families must do. Your loss of your scholarship due to failing to maintain academic standards is not an unexpected hardship justifying special consideration. A school year job is unlikely to replace the scholarship funding you lost.
Re: Scholarship Lost, What to Do
No, it would.. I would need just $3000 a semester..
But, I hope I win the appeal, its just 1 semester of bad grades! I can get a semester of warning.

I believe if you remain on the school roster you can enter. It sounds like you would still be a student but with fewer class hours if the one scholarship is terminated.
Re: Scholarship Lost, What to Do
I am currently registered for Fall, I have a letter from school stating I am in good standing ( that my DSO asked me to show at the port of entry ). So, if my courses are dropped, will my SEVIS record be terminated that very moment, or can enter, talk to the DSO and find some way out?
Re: Scholarship Lost, What to Do
You are required to update your sevis record prior to traveling. If you are dropped as a student, then you aren't a student. If there is a requisite number of class hours you must take to qualify for the visa and dropping the classes you would be dropping puts you below that threshold, then you don't qualify for the visa. If there is no requisite number of hours, then enrollment should qualify you.
