Will Retail Theft Database Show Up on Background Check for Non Retail Jobs
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Florida
I was fired from my job because I used an old gift card that had $26.50 on it that a customer did not end up using. The police were not called in and I was not arrested. I also paid back the $26.50 to the company. I deeply regret this situation. I want to know how will I be aware that I am in the retail theft database? Also I would like to know will it show up on background checks for non-retail jobs? Thank you in advance for answering my questions.

The NRTD does comply with the credit checking laws. You can ask for a copy of your file. Only NRTD members have access to the data, so as long as you are applying outside of one of the member organizations (i.e., not even for the job as a janitor at Target or whatever) then it shouldn't affect you. Like a credit report, the NRTD times out after seven years. Of course, you should hope that your prospective employers don't call for references with your old job.
