ok a couple weeks ago i got a mip for alcohol in michigan. the michigan law states that for your first violation a fine of not more than $100. I went to court this morning and got a fine of $215.00. Can someone tell me why the state laws says one thing, but yet the court imposed something different. thank you!

What was the exact breakdown of that $215? Perhaps a $100 fine, $100 in court courts, and another $15 supervision fee, or something like that?

thats the thing, i asked the lady if i could get some kind of piece of paper showing me what exactly all im paying for and she said its all just the fine for the mip. so i showed her the state law becuase i took a copy and she said every court does it different and i said well this is state law it says no more than $100 and she just said well they all do it different which makes no sense to me.

So basically, you are being fined the $100 plus the cost of prosecution. -

The judge would have described what you were paying in court, and the itemization of the various fees will be reflected in the court file and quite possibly on your receipt.

alrite thanx for the info everybody, but one more question.. since i didnt have enough to pay it all 2day, they now issued a warrant for my arrest. so now if i go turn myself in with the money will my bail just be set at the amount of the fine or more. or what if i pay the fine w/o getting arrested, will their still be a warrant out for and if so how long? sry for all the questions but this is the best place to ask. thanx!

If you go back to court and resolve the fines and bench warrant, the bench warrant will no longer be in effect. There may be an additional fine relating to the bench warrant - you may wish to check with the court. Try contacting the court to arrange a time to come in to pay the fines, as if you can do that you should be able to avoid any period of incarceration.
