Social Poker Winnings and SSI
If a person on SSI won four thousand dollars in a non casino social poker game and bought a car from a dealership for about that amount. Would it legitimize the car as an exempt asset serve to "pay down" the monetary gain if all this was so reported( the money and car purchase ) to social security within the ten day period rule?
Now in social poker games unlike casinos there is no paper trail like receipts,SS numbers ect. I want to if social poker winnings are acceptable income on an individuals say so? Would one be in good legal standing,as I have so put forth?
Re: Social Poker Winnings and SSI
Nope it is reportable. Failure to do so will keep you ineligible until you report it and can result in a massive overpayment.

Y'know, I could've sworn that dancingwiththestars asked this question...

I was thinking the same thing.

If you read the post, you would see that it was reported in the situation in question

Which then means they must also pay taxes on the winnings. It should be counted as a resource for the month you had it, thus making you ineligible for one month. It could extend further, if they believe you falsified the report and were given the money. Very possible since you should not have the money to be engaging in high stakes illegal gambling.
Re: Social Poker Winnings and SSI
Social poker is not illegal in many states
Re: Social Poker Winnings and SSI
Since you didn't bother to tell us which state you're in....

Its actually unlikely that in the end that 4k would be taxed unless the OP has other taxable income, which is again unlikely if they are on SSI. Standard deductions and personal exemptions would wipe in out on the federal level and on most state levels as well.
Re: Social Poker Winnings and SSI
well you can argue at the administrative appeal that $4000 is "social poker"
you probably will not be successful, because it's obviously BS
