What County Should a Divorce Be Filed in
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Ohio
I am in the process of getting a dissolution. Currently my daughter and I are living at my parents, but I am looking at moving one county over. Nothing has been filed with the courts at this time, although we have both retained lawyers. I currently live in Lake County, as does my husband, but I am looking at an aparemtn in Geauga County. So far, we are looking at shared parenting, with me being the residential parent, and this isn't being contested. I don't anticipate it being contested after we move either. My question is this... What county would our divorce and custody agreement need to be filed in? Is there a length of time we would need to live in Geauga County before I could file and have it be in that county?

Given that you, your husband and your child all live in Lake County, that's presently the place to file. Venue for divorce would normally arise in a county after you've been domiciled there for 90 days. Keep in mind that if you have marital assets in Lake County, it could still make sense to file there.
