Getting a License to Sell Insurance With a Criminal Record
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: CA. I pleaded guilty to simple battery 243a and have 1 yr left on a 2 yr probation. Can I ever get a CA license to sell life and health insurance? I was told I can try to get an expungment.. is this best done by a lawyer? might it be granted and if I have one yr left on probation. when do I start. and would an expungment allow me this license? would this still show up on background checks from the state and the insurance companies? . located in san diego if anyone wants to assist.
Re: Getting a License to Sell Insurance With a Criminal Record
Although simple battery isn't an automatic disqualifier, licensing CAN be denied for ANY felony. One of the biggest factors the licensing board will consider is time since the crime. If you're still on probation for a felony, the reality you're facing is that your odds of being accepted for licensing are between snowball's chance and zero. Ten years from now, keeping a clean nose, those odds will improve.
Expungement won't matter. Your criminal record will still show up for government licensing purposes.
