If a Store Doesn't Call the Police Can You Still Get Charged With Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ontario, Canada.

I got caught shoplifting just under 100$. The LPO took me into the office, I gave everything back. He took my driver's license, made a photocopy and made a call, he said prior that he was going to call to check to see if I had a record. I didn't of course, as I told him. The cops weren't called, I wasn't arrested he said because it's my first time offense, he didn't want to ruin my record & I complied. I signed a paper saying I wouldn't enter a Walmart for 1 year. I also signed a paper where I acknowledged what I did. He said that I may receive a letter in the mail, if I do, I'll get it within 14 days with an amount to pay. It's like a ticket he said. If I don't pay, there will be a warrant out for my arrest and police could come to my home. He also said that the copy could still sue, but it's rarely ever happens. I have never been in trouble in my life and this is definitely a lesson, even though I am more than old enough to know right from wrong. With that being said, should I have to worry about the cops coming to my home or anything? I am not sure if a police report was filed, at the time seeing as no cops were involved. He did say I was lucky. I also asked if anyone else would know and he said no, just me and "us" (Walmart) I'm just scared to death and thinking the worst possible outcome. I have no problem paying the fine because I don't want a single soul to know and I don't want to get sued and have to go court. Also, if I don't receive a letter within 2 weeks, am I able to call Walmart and ask someone about whether or not I will receive one? Without police being present, could they have still filed a police report? or would that just be internally in the Walmart system, so that I am on their file for shoplifting? They filled out some paper asking me about any tattoos, color of hair & eyes, etc. I assume they pretty much dealt with the incident internally. He said he didn't want to ruin my record, so I think maybe the police do not know about the incident..However, if they did want to, they could sue? I've looked up many posts in this case, however, no one ever posts what the outcome was in the end.
