What's the Penalty for Underage Possession of Alcohol and Failure to Appear in Court

My question involves criminal law for the state of: VA
21 Year old Underage Alcohol Possession
Ticket issued 9/29/13 underage possession
court date 10/28/13
missed court date twice
turn 21 2/20/14
new court date 5/12

what will happen? Im assuming there is already a bench warrant out for my arrest. My father is looking in to a lawyer. I was unaware that I had these court dates stacking up on me. Will I have to face Jail time for missing these? what is the max? for time and fines? The fact that I am 21 help me? Could I still me stripped off my license and required AA Meetings? any advice is welcome. Read that I should get this taken care of right away. Thank you.

A lawyer would be a VERY good idea. No you don't get points because you are now 21. Missing two court dates will certainly disinclined a lot of judges to extending any leniency to you.

The worst: Up to one year in jail and $2500 fine (plus costs).
The least: Enrollment in a diversion program (alcohol class, probation, possibly community service)

Guaranteed: Loss of license for 180 days (could be extended to a aery).

Virginia has a formalized alcohol program (VASAP). Some judges may like AA but frankly, it's not a real pervasive thing in the commonwealth (and rightfully so, AA is completely ineffective).

The time to have taken care of this (other than before you started drinking) was before your first trial date. Get a lawyer and listen to him.
