Child Support when Parents Both Have Moved to Other States
My question involves child support in the State of: WI
My support agreement is in Wisconsin however the custodial parent has moved to numerous states(NC, back to WI, then to KS, and now to LA) and each state has had a lower cost of living however I pay the WI rates. As the non-custodial parent I have moved a bunch as well being in the military and want to know how can I change it to my state of record. I continually pay based on my rates and the non taxable cost of living rates of where I live but never seem to be heard when i voiced my concern about a 16% COLA difference between WI and Kansas. Is there anything I can do? Any place I can get better information? I have paid my dues faithfully for 16 years but believe the system should consider the circumstances.
Thanks.....
Re: Child Support when Parents Both Have Moved to Other States
When mom and child have relocated their domicile to a new state for six months or longer, you can retain a lawyer in that state to try to have jurisdiction transferred to that state, and then to move to modify support based upon your present state of domicile. As laws vary by state, you should work out the details of what is possible in any given state with the lawyer you hire to represent you.
