When Can You Ignore Traffic Signs Facing the Other Direction
Traffic signs not facing your path of travel.

I want to exit a private driveway. I am facing North at the entrance/exit of a private driveway and want to make a left (go West) into a “highway divided into two or more roadways by means of a dividing section of not less than two feet in width delineated by curb”. I want to use the opening at the termination point of Westbound number 1 lane. There is a “No left turn / No U turn traffic” sign just to the East of me on center divider. Please see attached picture.

First question: Does my “crossing” the Eastbound lanes constitutes that I was traveling on the Eastbound lanes and I should abide by the signs posted facing the Eastbound lanes? (i.e. no left turn, max speed, honking, MAX GVW, etc).

Second question: Does VC 21651(a)(2) applies to cars existing a private driveway? Or just the cars traveling on that highway?

Please make reference to VC sections if available.
    Thank you very much.

You are not permitted to crossover at that point to continue across the street or make a left from the parking lot. Once you enter the roadway you are subject to the restriction imposed for that intersection.

As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.

Actually, while that is related to the prohibited act, that is not the element of the offense. The element that must be proven and the one described in 21651(a)(2) is whether you turned through an opening that is not designated for such a turn...

21651(a)(2) To make any left, semicircular, or U-turn with the vehicle on the divided highway, except through an opening in the barrier designated and intended by public authorities for the use of vehicles or through a plainly marked opening in the dividing section.

Similar to the above, ^this is not the element that requires proof either; it applies to all vehicles who made ANY turning movement through that opening.

No matter how you twist it, you cannot make that turn!

You could have made it all much safer, much easier and much cheaper by making a right turn, driving the 200 feet to Wayman St, and making your u-turn there...
