Can I Get Emancipated Due to a Parent's Angry Conduct
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Pennsylvania...
I'm turning 16 very soon and I've been thinking hard and long about getting emancipated. I live with just my dad and at first everything seemed to be going good but then turned for the worst my dad has what his doctor called explosive anger and it is always me be takes it out on. I found a job and a place to stay as long as I pay an amount of rent which is fine but idk what the court or whoever looks at my turn in form will say. My dad takes his anger out on me by locking me inside, keeping me in my room and never taking care of the tiny things a growing man needs. I've prepared for this for about a year and I'm seeking advice on whether or not this would ever work.
I'm also seeking advice on steps that I could possibly take to ensure my emancipation. My grades are good, I've had no law problems and the job is in place just need to now what the next step would be.
I take all advice and criticism. Thank you
Re: Do I Have a Chance for Emancipation
You are not anywhere close to being in a situation allowing emancipation.
Re: Do I Have a Chance for Emancipation
Understand that despite what you think the term means from your 8th grade history class, emancipation is not a procedure to escape parental enslavement. It is recognition of an independent minor who needs relief from certain disabilities, specifically the ability to enter into contracts for essential life services (leases, etc...).
We do not turn abused kids out on the street, we find them alternative custody. If you are truly abused, contact a school counsellor or in a pinch call the folks at 800-4-A-CHILD. Not allowing you to roam about in public freely is not "denying things a growing man needs."
There's not a prayer you will be emancipated in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania doesn't even have a emancipation statute. Absent some unusual circumstance where you are already living alone (either because parents are gone or consent to such), the only other surefire way is to join the military. You're too young to join the military (and believe me, if you think your father's rules are tough, you ain't seen nothing like the military).
Re: Can I Get Emancipated Due to a Parent's Angry Conduct
As you should already know from the stickied threads, Pennsylvania's emancipation requirements vary by county. You will need to investigate the policies of your county.

ROFL no, no you didn't.
Do I really have to explain how we all know you're lying through your teeth (and not very well at that)?
