Extension of J-1 Visa After Receiving J-1 Waiver
    Hi,

I am in the US on a J-1 visa, category "research scholar". My current visa is valid for one year, I am funded for two years. Since the 2 year rule applies to my current visa, I applied for a J-1 waiver based on "no objection", which was granted. Unfortunately, I then was informed by the immigration service of the research institution hosting me that due to the waiver it is not possible to extent my J-1 visa anymore.

I am now trying to find the law / regulation in which it is stated that an extension of a J-1 visa is not possible after receiving a J-1 waiver (or the opposite in case the immigration service is wrong). Could anyone tell me where to find this? So far, I have looked in
    • Immigration and Nationality Act and 8 CFR
    • Fulbright–Hays Act and 22 CFR
    but without success.

Thanks, on this website it is confirmed that I cannot extend my J-1 visa after having received the waiver. But in order to assess my options, I would like to have a look at the laws and regulations in which this is laid down. Does anyone know which these are?
