Does Getting Medicaid Make You a Public Charge
Hello Experts,
I have a question using Medicaid use and was wondering if anyone having knowledge in this matter provide me with an answer please:
I am a USC and sponsored GC for my mother and she is currently a GC holder. My mother does not work and I have been claiming her to be my dependent on the Federal Tax Returns. Under the Obama law, I was browsing the Health Insurance Market Place to shop for health coverage for my mother, reviewed the application with the Marketplace agent and it was determined that she might qualify for the state sponsored Medicaid program. When I petitioned for her, I acknowledged that I will be financially responsible for her and will not let her become a public charge. I still am financially responsible for her, but my question is - does being under Medicaid program consider someone to be a 'public charge'? Please advise.
Thank you very much in advance.
(I wanted to choose one of the Health Insurance Market Place, but they determined Medicaid would be the option for my mother).
Re: Is Using Medicaid Regarded As Being Public Charge
There isn't actually a yes/no answer - it depends on the totality of circumstances.
You can read a synopsis here: http://thinkprogress.org/immigration...pes-coverage/#
(Much as the site itself is a little ... odd ..the information contained is actually very accurate)
