Putting Substances in Food to Punish a Food Thief

My question involves criminal law for the state of: MI

As my friend said...a co-worker (they don't know who) keeps eating others food. One wants to put Colon Cleanse in her yogurt for next time....I don't think it's a good idea. Could it be considered Food Tampering if she did add Colon Cleanse to her own yogurt, knowing that someone else is going to eat it....

I seem to remember a story - I think it was someone in my HR group who told it but I'm not sure - about someone who put ex-lax in the brownies she left in the break room for exactly that reason, and later was criminally charged. But I don't remember the details.

no, it's not a good idea because it is illegal. It is illegal to "booby trap" something with the intent of harming another. God forbid the person had a very bad reaction to the adulteration and was hospitalized, or even worse, died. Care to guess who would be charged for the crimes involved.


What you can do is put unpalatable products in the lunches. Nothing that would harm them but something that simply tastes like dog poo.

I was thinking of salt.....

I had it happen to me once. I had a week vacation. My co-worker used my coffee creamer....and even told my mom to tell me I needed a new one because she used it all. I brought my new one it, drew lines on it...watched it...if she had done it again, I was going to dump enough salt in to make her coffee taste like hell.

Salt or hot sauce is okay.

Advised my friend to do the salt or hot sauce, or let it go bad and put it in the work fridge.

I'm just wondering how old this person is.

These aren't the actions of a mature adult.
