Law Trying to Get Me for Something That Happened when I Was 17
My question involves criminal law for the state of: arizona
I got arrested in 2013 for MIC *underage drinking* I was 17 at the time and about 2 weeks before my birthday. They placed the court date after my birthday. So I was 18 when I went to court. I showed up, they said the case had not been filed yet. Few days go by I get a letter that says im a victim in my friends, so I get the victim packet and refused to testify in court for what my friends were being charged with. On 2/06/14 I get a letter that says I have to go to court for a underage person with liquor in body. I looked up when they got the case filed. It was filed last month on the 29th. Can they still charge me for something that happened last year before I was 18 but they failed to file the case in time?

How is it you claim they failed to file the case in time? 2013 can be a few months ago. Apparently they can still charge you since you are not a victim.
Quote:
In general, the State has one year to bring charges for Misdemeanors.
C. For the purposes of subsection B of this section, a prosecution is commenced when an indictment, information or complaint is filed.

What makes you say they filed the case too late?
