Looking for Clarification of Assault vs. Domestic Violence
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
In 2005 I was arrested and charged with Assault with intent to cause bodily harm. This involved a situation with my ex girlfriend. We dated for about a year, did not live together, have no children etc etc. The charge was filed as assault.
I am preparing to buy a firearm and have been looking for clearcut answers. Will the fact that this assault involving my ex girlfriend (even though I was not charge with domestic violence) prevent me from purchasing a firearm?
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to give.
*For further clarification*
Texas Family Violence law states it CAN include a previous dating partner.
But the Federal law (in relation to firearms) states it must be a spouse/family memeber/someone you share a child with/or someone you have or currently cohabitat with.
Will the federal law be the final determining factor?

Go to court and see the court clerk to get a finial despotion of the case,it will list what the final conviction was. It appears that you have a conviction for class a misdeamanor for Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Harm.
