What Type of Sentencing Will I Receive for Petty Theft

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio
A friend and I recently got in trouble for shoplifting at a Walmart. The total amount of money in product was around 250 dollars (we had whitening strips). I received a fine from the store for 200 but i haven't received a summoning date yet. This is my first offense ever. I've never had any run ins with the law before. Not even for a traffic violation. What can i expect to happen. Yes I realize what I did was wrong and I won't ever do it again. I'm 18.

If you do get prosecuted for this you probably will get hit with just a fine and no jail.

It would probably be a misdemeanor (just guessing at that). Misdemeanors often carry fines of up to $2500.

But your age, first offense, probably a lot less.

Chances are that, once you've paid the civil fine, it's possible that the store won't report it to the authorities. If every Walmart shoplifting case was prosecuted Walmart employees would be spending all of their time in court.

You're just going to have to sweat this out for a while.
