Felony Charge and Child Custody

I am curious because I took a plea for a charge that I had due to the cost of traveling back and forth from SC to TX. I was charged with CDV Choking/Impeding ability to breath. I am currently dating a wonderful woman that has two children that are 7 and 11. I absolutely adore the kids and her but here is the issue. My girlfriend is entertaining the possibility of going to court and trying to get full custody. Is there a possibility that she can lose her kids due to my record and the charge against me?
