Caught Stealing at Walmart but the Police Were Not Called
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
So i got caught by an LP agent at walmart about $15 and he brought me into a room and got all my information. I signed and Asset Protection Recovery form. No Police were called and he said that im gonna get a fine in the mail in a few weeks. he said i was lucky but next time i try it the police would be called and i would be arrested.
i am not worried about the fine, when i get it i will pay it in full. But how likely is it that i will get a court summons in the mail asking me to appear before court?
as i said no police called, lp guy said i would just get a fine in the mail and i got lucky.
Re: Caught Stealing at Walmart Around $15
If you pay the fine, prosecution is unlikely.

You did get lucky. When the police are called, things get very expensive. So take this as a lesson and don't shoplift anymore. We are talking maybe a $200 fine compared to $1500+ for a lawyer, plus court costs and fines.

That is not what normally happens, no. Normally if they don't involve the police at the moment you are caught, they don't involve the police at all. No police involvement, no court summons.
