Can you be emancipated at 16
At the age of 16, is there anyway that you can be emancipated even if you're still living with your parents?
I live with my parents still, i'm 16 years old, but i have my own job and still attend school. Where i live there is a close-by alternative school that gives you a regular diploma and i could attend that school and could possibly work full-time. I would like to be emancipated and could very well support myself. Do you think that there is any way that this is possible?

In general, you would not qualify for emancipation since you still live with your parents. Stay in school and work things out with your parents.

It is difficult. What are your reasons for wanting to be emancipated? That is going to be a huge part of it. Is it because you just don't get along with your parents?

Some other ways (vary by state) include marriage or if you have a child. I am just telling you the law, but please don't do either of those at your age! I'm 19 now and know several people that had kids/ got married at your age and their lives are terrible right now.

Also, what are your plans to support yourself if you do get emancipated? Do you realize living costs?

I do not get along with my parents very well at all. me and my dad have had some problems in the past as well as my sister and him as well. i am engaged right now to a wonderful man but that is beyond the point. we weren't going to marry until' my 18th birthday. i could pretty much support myself if emancipated and would be happy doing so. i've been very independent for quite some time now and would like to legally do so.

To marry you need permission from your parents or from a court. Once married, you would become emancipated from your parents by virtue of the marriage.

I don't know the requirements, but the Texas district court is where to go to obtain permission to marry, if you are under 18. I would give them a call, and ask them what you need to do to obtain this permission.

You petition the court for permission. The exact procedures will vary by state. You can ask at the county to see if they have forms, or (if you can't figure out how to draft your own petition without help) consult a local lawyer to assist you. Recall that your ability to ask a court to issue a marriage license does not mean that the court will do so.

I would reread Aaron's post your answer is there. Yes you can but the court approving such a union will be far tougher
