Clearing a Bad Check Charge from 20 Years Ago
My question involves criminal records for the state of: New York

I am writing to see if anyone could be of assistance in some advice for my mother. She has a bounced check for 8 dollars.. yes 8 dollars that went to court 20 years ago. She is looking to get this expunged from her record as it has been hard for her to get a decent job. How exactly would one go about this?

    thank you.

    thank you.

She would need to consult a local attorney for that. I don't think that its something that she can do without one.

I'm sorry once a misdemeanor conviction is entered there is no current way to seal or expunge the conviction in the state of ny. At the time she could of got an acd or reduction in charge, check the thread in this forum. (There trying to pass a bill to seal non violent misdemeanors.) It's hard to get but she can apply for pardon,it might be worth talking to a lawyer to see if she has any options.

She can apply for a certificate of relief from disabilities. There's a bill pending in New York that would allow this type of conviction to be conditionally sealed, so keep an eye out for developments... but that type of bill has been unsuccessfully proposed before so don't get too excited.
