Sexting a Picture to a Minor
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Arizona
So I was on a site and posted something, this person responded and asked for the picture so I sent it. They then said that they were a cop. They replied to me though? It has been 4 months and nothing has happened. What can I expect?
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
Given that the crystal ball is out for recalibration, we cannot predict what may or may not happen.
You may wish to utilize Google (or your preferred browser) to find out how Arizona handles such things.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
To be sued for paternity in about 5 months. You might have been redone on a 3d printer.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
It said that it is up to the DA I believe. I also found that this would probably be a petty offense or maybe a misdemeanor class 3.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
Chances are you be fine, since nothing happened yet (no can say for sure). Even thou it's a misdemeanor, some misdemeanors can still get you on the sex offender list. Even non sexual misdemeanor convictions can affect you have for getting a job, renting an apt and many other things. It's just not worth the risk.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
It serves no purpose to needlessly scare the OP.
Depending on the circumstances, Arizona DOES provide protection in both landlord/tenant and employer matters.
A blanket statement such as yours, tc498, is inappropriate.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
The police wouldn't be apt to out themselves at that point in the investigation, as opposed to continuing to play the role to see if you end up committing a more significant crime.
But.... You don't know who is on the other side of an online chat. It could be a CGI minor, it could be a quasi-vigilante group that is inclined to report your conduct to the police or to collect information that they will ultimately post online in an exposé of your actions. It could be a minor whose parents are apt to call the police when they come across a chat log.
When you say "So I was on a site and posted something, this person responded and asked for the picture so I sent it." you make it sound like you knew this person was, or was holding herself out to be, a minor. Just don't do it.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
I had no idea who the person is. they said to expect a call from a law firm but I researched extensively and it turned out to be bogus.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
The moral of this story is not to sext to people you meet randomly on the internet.
Re: Minor Sexting (One Picture)
Exactly. I had no idea that it was illegal. I believe that a police officer should come talk to my school because there are so many nudes floating around that place. Anyway, so would you say that I'm pretty safe?
