    Why can't you just step outside and talk to her?

    "Ma'am, I understand you once lived in this house and probably miss it. But your repeated visits and notes and peering through our windows are making us very uncomfortable. Please leave us alone. You are not welcome to visit the home and you are not welcome on our property. Please leave and don't return or I will have to make it a police matter".

    There! Wasn't that easy?

    I find it extremely strange that OP hasn't read the notes.

    I do too. I sure would want to see what they said. They might even provide a reason for why she is coming by.

    If he's truly disturbed, he has two options: Put on the big boy pants, step outside and talk to her; or simply call the police.

    I truly don't understand the difficulty in asking the lil old woman "can I help you?" Honestly, Illinois officers are bogged down with enough. Hell, unless you actually have informed the person that they are not welcome on your property, the police probably won't do anything about it. You are making this a much more difficult issue than needed.

    If he really wants police involvement, he also needs to do Big Boy things like installing inexpensive home security into the house, and videotape this woman on the property, then get a restraining order.

    I think the first thing the police will ask is did you ask the lady what she wanted? Then they will speak with her, and she will tell them what it is she wanted. They may ask you about it, or they may just advise her to stay away.

    But seriously...it's a little old lady. She used to live there. She may be confused or she may just want to see the place one last time. OP seems like an awful Grinch not to at least inquire into her motives.

    Wow, you guys. Are you giving her a pass because she's a little old lady?

    I don't answer the door for strangers, either, and smashing your face up against my window or rattling my door handle is likely to get the dogs set on you, the business end of my baseball bat, or both. I even have a sign on my gate warning people that if they are not known to me, they are not welcome, and they'd best be able to run faster than The Hounds if they pester me.

    She is trespassing! OP, call the cops. You are correct that you owe her absolutely nothing, and she owes you the courtesy of staying the hell out of your windows and off your property.

    Where do you see that Missy?

    (3) remains upon the land of another, after receiving notice from the owner or occupant to depart;
    (3.5) presents false documents or falsely represents his or her identity orally to the owner or occupant of a building or land in order to obtain permission from the owner or occupant to enter or remain in the building or on the land;

    It's anything but unusual for somebody to come up to your front door, ring the doorbell, and see if you're home. If you choose not to answer the door, it's anything but unusual for them to try again later. It's anything but unusual for somebody who is waiting at the door to look through the window in the door, or the sidelight windows, to see if somebody is coming to answer the door. None of that is illegal.
