Petty theft, first time at age 17
    Hey,

I am a 17 year old in Orange County, California. I was stuphid enough to listen to all my friends who stole from there place of work and got away with it. So I decided to process to fake returns and put the credit to gift cards with total of 159. I only used 4.00 on the gift cards because I felt horrible about it. I was also dumb and used my employee discount when using the gift card, so the computer flagged it since the person who issued them also used them. Basically I am told I just have to wait for something to come in the mail from Courts. I talked to an attorney and she said I need to wait and see if the DA files charges.

What are my chances of the charges being filed? I am honor student with lots of community and school involvement in activities. The attorney said that along with it being my first time getting in trouble that hopefully she should be able to get me a good plea deal. I just wanna get this behind me and hopefully end up with no record. So what do you guys think?

    Sorry its long!

It was a rude way to put it, but it seems fair to express that shoplifters and embezzlers raise the cost of merchandise for everybody else.

Your lawyer is probably the person most able to guess if charges will be authorized. In most cases they would be.

It hasn't been pointed out yet, you not only stole, but, you also commited fraud. The proverbial double-whammy! Fraud, even first offense, is pretty serious stuff.

And an honor student too......pity, you may have flushed away a promising future.

    Mr. Knowitall,

Thanks for not being rude :)

I already understand what I did was wrong and I didnt come here to be told that. This is a forum to get legal advice. I have already seeked the help of an attorney but just wanted some extra advice. Hopefully I didnt flush away my whole future because I think thats not true. If it is, well then the court system sucks because the intent of Juvinille Courts is not to flush away some ones life but to rehabilitate.
