Removing Credit Report Entries from a Debt Collector
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California
I just looked at my credit report through Credit Karma and noticed it had plummeted 35 points due to a new "Loan" on my report. Of course I went into research mode and found out that the "loan" company was actually a debt collector. LVNV Funding LLC. had bought a credit card debt that was charged off in 2007. California SOL is 4 years. I pulled up my TransUnion report and I see that they have had a record on my report since 12/30/11 the charge off date for this card was 2/22/2007 so they still missed the SOL.
I have not received communication from LVNV that I am aware of. They also operate under Resurgent Capital Services, that name sounds familiar but it's been a long time since I have heard from any debt collector.
How do I get this removed? I have been doing a bit of research and a Zombie Debt letter just doesn't seem right since they aren't contacting me. I could be wrong though. any advice would be helpful.
Thank you!

you wait
charged off has no meaning
the 4 year sol has no meaning for reporting purposes
the debt can be reported for 7 (and I think 1/2) years from first delinquency. Once it passes that point, then you can demand it be removed from your report. Until then, well, it is what it is.
