Scheduling After School Activities
My question involves a child custody case from the State of: Washington.
Here's my question:
My ex and i have 2 children, daughter in 2nd grade and son in preschool. I get off work about 45 minutes before my daughter gets out of school, and their mother gets off work about 2 1/2 hrs. after. I would like to start taking my daughter to an after school sport activity, but the mother is refusing to allow me. I attempted to explain that the activity would end before she would even be off work, and i could meet her at a closer location with both kids than she would have to go to pick my son up from daycare.
i'm not asking for assistance in any financial way, and like i said, wouldn't interfere with mothers schedule. do i stand a chance of winning this dispute?
Re: After School Activities
Where do the kids usually stay while Mom's at work?
Re: After School Activities
my son is at daycare, and my daughter fluctuates between going to the daycare or sometimes riding the bus home. we have a provision in our parenting plan that says if a parent is unable to attend the children for 8+ hrs then the other parent has right of first refusal, but this is nowhere near 8 hrs. i just want to be able to have my daughter experience some joy in after school sports, but mother tries to control everything even though she has no REAL reason
Re: After School Activities
Does Mom face any financial penalty if one or both miss daycare?
Re: After School Activities
Nope, no financial penalty and no risk of the kids losing their spot in daycare either. I could understand if there were some negative outcomes, but it really is just her wanting to be in control and have her way and the kids are receiving the negative outcomes as a result
Re: After School Activities
Then I honestly cannot see you getting into trouble; even if you did, it would be very minor (slap on the wrist, a quick glare from the commissioner).
And if that happens, file to modify the order based on what you've said here.
This is actually what the commissioners hate. They don't want to have to micro-manage a parent and if Mom makes an issue of it, and gets the wrong commissioner (ie..there's one in Whatcom County who will nip that in the bud before Mom can utter her name) she'll be the one getting a stern talking to.
Re: After School Activities
Do you have Joint Legal? What does your order say about decision making and 'after school activities' and what does it say, specifically, about day care?
I agree with Dogmatic, i don't see you getting in trouble, but, that depends a lot on how your order is written.
