How to Find Out Who is Making Harassing Phone Calls
My question involves police conduct in the State of: CA

    Hello,

I received several harassing calls to my cell phone one morning that appear to be plans of an attack against me in the future. The voices are making jokes, but it really seems to be apparent something is up. How can I find out who owns that cell phone in a creative legal way since the police say they wont investigate it? It isnt importanr to them, but its very important to me! Please give me your best advice as if it were you. I need to be able to know who would hurt me if I am to protect myself. Thank you,so much for your help in advance! :)

There are companies on line that claim to be able to provide the name of phone holders for a fee. How good their info is, I can't say. But, you can pay a couple of them and see what happens.

Thank you for responding cdwjava. :) I paid Spokeo andgot no information, and I also paid another company who gave me a false address and no name. Sad because that was $44! :/ I'm hoping for success going a different route. They also gave me the carrier location doing business as Verizon in Fair Oaks. Any further ideas?

I know it's a inconvenience, but perhaps changing your number would be a easier, more plausible option?

    That's what I'd do.

As phone numbers can be spoofed, there is likely little you could do.

since op has the phone number, s/he needs to log all the calls. If they continue, keep going back to the police and say:

    is this harassment yet?

That's about all that comes to mind. Short of serving a subpoena on the carrier, Verizon (and that requires an active court case), there's not much you can do short of ignoring the calls.

It doesn't appear the OP has even checked with the police, yet. But, here's what the police will likely do: Take a report for PC 653m (annoying and harassing communications), give him a case number so Verizon might set up a phone trap if they can/will, MAYBE call the number and ask what's up and tell them to stop calling the OP, and then file the thing away. It's a low-level misdemeanor, and they are not going to serve search warrants on Verizon for this sort of thing where the OP thinks that it "appear(s)" they are planning an attack against him for some reason.

You can also block specific numbers from calling you.

Not all providers or phones allow this as an option. And the caller can always "spoof" the number to get around this. It's probably worth investigating, but, it's not always a viable option.

    Hello,

I just wanted to say thank you for all the responses and for sharing your knowledge. Fyi....I did make a police report about this, and as you may have guessed, it was not a big enough deal to have a judge subpoena records. I am truly saddened by this as an honest citizen, taxpayer etc.. with a clean record. But rhe law is the law.

I told the police of surrounding circumstances that I thought would really make this an exception because my ultimate goal is to protect my safety and have the option of staying local and not runnuning away. But in ordet to protect yourself or even run, you have to know exactly who you are up against.

I think there is no other way but for me to do my own surveillance work.

Please feel free to give any helpful advice. I have people coming up to me at work telling me Im in danger but they want to remain anonymous. Words used...I see you turning off the tv...and ...the time you have left.

The last one was a card asking for Jesus to save me.
