How Do Stores Know About My History of Shoplifting
My question involves defamation in the state of: Maryland
I would like to know if anyone else in Maryland or any other state who has shoplifted before is being surveilled by retailers aggressively. When I go out to the store, just about any store that is either a major chain or located in a strip mall, I am immediately flagged upon entry. The employees react anxiously to my presence. Most times, after my entry, they get a phone call instructing them to (I am assuming here) go to their back room database and record my visit. This happens even in restaurants. Just need to know what experience others may be having and if anyone knows if this type of surveillance could be infringing on an individuals civil rights.
Thanks!:(

real professional
Well, when you say professional, what do you mean? Do you mean professional like in lawyer? Well, if so, then you should not expect me to act professional as in a lawyer because I am not a lawyer. Now, it also isn't professional for a truck driver or an airline pilot either.
Now, if you speak of comedians, it could be very professional. If you speak of a doctor of psych, it could be professional there as well as although it is not a true medical treatment in the typical sense, it could be cathartic or it could give one peace of mind. Especially given your concern of what some may see as paranoia, then it could be very beneficial to you.
So, could you expand on what you mean by; real professional?

Nope. Not one bit.
Re: Shoplifting Aggressive Cctv Surveillance
It is not illegal to think you look like a shoplifter and record you. It is not illegal to record you based on prior acts. If you do not like, shop or should I say shoplift elsewhere.

Being surveilled in restaurants? Really?
Every store you go in could be possible, especially if you are acting in a suspicious manner.

Or the stores are in the same area and the LP departments are tight. Those that are tend to keep each other up to date on who the local thieves are.
In restaurants? Time for the Reynolds folks to pay a visit.

Those stores and restaurants are private property and you are out in public. You have no inherent right to privacy there. Not only do they have every right to surveil you while you are on THEIR property, they even have the ability to refuse to allow you to enter their premises altogether. Know where you DO have those rights? At HOME. If your stealing activities have either made your local establishments so weary of you, or your paranoia is peaking, or both, that obtaining goods from them is uncomfortable for you, then the way around that is to use drive-thrus, mail order, home gardening, and medication.

Be careful if they invite you into the back office. This is often where they surreptitiously install the GPS tracking chip in the suspects.
