You might have a better chance with the "short cut' argument, but I doubt you'll find a school where that claim is plausible given the layout of the school's driveways, and even if you do the jury would likely be skeptical of your excuse, given that you had no legal right to use school property as a short cut.
Blue route is the way I'd like to travel. Red box represents school zone.

Maybe your schools are designed differently in PA, but I cannot fathom a "public roadway" cutting THROUGH the property of a school! Generally, the right to enter onto school grounds is limited and requires permission and can be revoked. If such a roadway exists, so long as you don't get out of your car and wave a gun around, I doubt that it will ever be an issue in the few seconds you would be traveling on a road between buildings or properties.
You seem to be quite eager to push the issue with regards to your handgun ... it seems an almost unhealthy obsession.
No one said waving a gun around. I believe the example I used was "a concerned parent" calling the police for MWAG because a range bag with a visible gun handle sticking out of it was observed. How the situation arises is irrelevant. I'm arguing that a lawful purpose exists and that the gun is irrelevant as I am not committing any unlawful acts and have a lawful purpose for being on the grounds.
All due respect, you're from California. I accept that guns and schools with roads through them might be foreign to you, but yea, that's how it is in PA.
Re: Carrying a Gun on School Property
A blue line through a school, with no indication of why that's relevant to a route, means nothing. But then, this entire discussion is a waste of time. Go ahead, get yourself arrested, and update us when your trial is over.
