I was in the mall when I stole some items that ended up being about $25 together (before taxes.) The police were called and I was issued a citation. I am 19, in school and I am a first offender of any kind (no traffic tickets or anything.)

Hiring a lawyer and attempting deferral or diversion is likely the best outcome as Mr K noted.
