Medical Company Took Too Long to Bill Insurance
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: California
Hi, just wanting to know if I'm being screwed over or not. My problem is I had an anesthesia service done at a hospital on 8/5/11. I had 2 insurances at that time. Everything was first sent to my primary and whatever they didn't pay was sent to my secondary (Medi-cal if it matters) Unfortunately we didn't know that my primary didn't cover this certain anesthesia company, but they also for some reason didn't get the secondary insurance info. They didn't bill me until March of 2012, I tried calling them and never would receive a return phone call, tried several times. Well, Medi-cal won't pay for anything over a year old. So now it's November of 2012 and they are saying I have to pay for it. Am I responsible? I tried to get a hold of them, no one wanted to talk to me until after it was overdue for insurance. Is there anything I can do, or am I stuck with this bill?

    Disagreeable

You should have stayed on top of it. Look at the denial from insurance. See if the procedure was specifically denied as a matter of contract and you owe nothing or it was just denied. Your only defense will be if the contract between insurance and the anesthesia company prohibits them coming after you based on the denial.
