Paying for slavery
There has been recent talk of states paying the descendants of slaves and/or paying them for land that was "taken" from the slaves.
Do you think this is fair?
My opinion on this is that the slaves done the work, and though it was wrong to have them in the first place, the descendants of the slaves are not entitled to compensation.
The land that was lost and the work performed are all a part of our history and should remain there. If a state opted to pay up for this, who is really paying? The tax payers, of course. But, shouldn't it be the descendants of the plantation owners and not everyone else? What if my family was not here during this time, why should I pay?
I am not living on the land snatched from slaves, but I have to pay for someone elses property? That hardly seems right.
Same goes for native Americans. I don't get why people bring up old stuff that cannot be traced and try to make something out of it.

Re: Paying for slavery
This is recent talk? I think it started close to 150 years ago....

My simple answer; No, we should not have to pay.
