Dentist Put Fiancé's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of:pennsylvania
My husband had to undergo two root canals before we were married and he didn't have insurance. The dentist put the charges on a medical credit card, but it is in my name. Is this legal or valid? we were not married at the time and now this is going onto my credit... HELP!
Re: Dentist Put Fiance's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
How did the dentist know you had this credit card? How did the dentist know you even knew the guy?
and the big question:
what did the dentist say when you asked them why the placed the charges on your credit card?

They knew we were in a relationship, and I had called them to see what he could do in the form of a payment plan, they told me of this care credit thing, which i'm assuming is like a credit care/ hsa account and I told them that would work. They said they would set it up and send it out. I'm assuming they used my information from my patient file because I did not supply them with my social, or authorize them to put the charges under my name. I have tried calling to inquire but this company continually ignores my questions and will only respond by asking me to make a payment.

Did you ever receive any information or contract concerning this credit account? Did you ever sign anything regarding this?
Did your friend now husband ever receive anything?
How long ago was the account opened? When did you first recieve bills?
Re: Dentist Put Fiance's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
this all started in probably june, he never received anything in his name, and I do not recall ever signing anything, i haven't been to the dentist since I want to say late may. I received a credit card with all of the legal jargon, and bills since then. they probably started coming in august i want to say, because the first payment was due in september
Re: Dentist Put Fiance's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
well, here is is November. Upon receiving the very first bill, did you contact them and dispute this whatever was charged on the account?
the easiest way out of this is have your husband pay his bill so it will be taken off this credit card account. Is he willing to do that? is he willing to open his own account and see if they will transfer the debt?
Re: Dentist Put Fiance's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
You wrote "they told me of this care credit thing, which i'm assuming is like a credit care/ hsa account and I told them that would work". What did you think this meant? You were not your fiance's agent and could not set up an account for him, so this account must be for you. Then you wrote "They said they would set it up and send it out." It sounds as if they did. Then you wrote "I received a credit card with all of the legal jargon, and bills since then." Why don't you think that you created this account and authorized your fiance's charges on it?
Have you discussed this debt with your husband? Does he plan to take care of this?
Let's assume that you intended for the account to be set up for your fiance. Doesn't that mean that your fiance did (and does?) have the ability to pay this debt. He can do that to you. After this debt is cleared close this account, if it troubles you.

Are we talking about a debit card for an FSA? An HSA? Something else?
Re: Dentist Put Fiance's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
Care credit is a credit card that is only used for medical things such as dentists, plastic surgeons, veterinarians, etc.

Re: Dentist Put Fiance's Balance on Medical Credit Card Under My Name
That's if it is a care credit card. My employer provides debit cards for their FSA. They are not the same thing.
And it matters which it is.
