Emancipation After the Death of a Parent
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Washington

My Cousin is 17 years old and has a job and goes to school full time. Her mother passed away in June and her father lives on the east coast. She has been living with my mother ( her Aunt) and she is wanting to emancipate herself so she can get things like health insurance and her own place to live. Her mother passed away so suddenly that she had no other option but to move in with her aunt. My 17 year old cousin receives social security from her mother and no help from her father. Are there rules about her receiving social security if she emancipates herself? since her mother is already deceased wouldn't it be just from her father and not affect the social security that she receives from her mother. Also what are the filing rules since her father lives in a different state? I appreciate your input Thank You
