Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
My question involves marriage law for the State of Florida:
Hello.
I am very new here and sorry if i do something not correct. I need right information and couldn't find it so far nowhere . I am a resident of Florida , green card holder and i want to marry a portuguese man , who has valid turist visa and we were together over 1 year in Portugal but i was need to back here , so now we decided to marry . He has a lot of relatives in Boston and we would want to make our wedding party with registration process over there .
My questions are :
1) if it is possible and legal ?
2) what papers do i need for marriage registration ?
3) what papers he needs for marriage registration ? (if he needs to translate anything on english ?)
4) if i am the resident of Florida, can we marry at Boston (MA) ? do i need anything extra for that ?
Looking forward for the answers.
Thank you , Mila

Re: Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
Thank you very much ! Today i had talk and his family said that it is better if we marry at Rhode Island , because there big portuguese community and everybody knows everybody...the city named Pawtucket. Is it still OK ? Thank you for the answers.

Re: Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
What you fail to realize is your green card renewal might be denied over this and his spousal visa will likely be denied. The gov't might be lax, they aren't stupid.
Re: Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
Here we go again.
No, his green card WILL NOT be affected unless - and this is a HUGE "unless" - there is definitive proof that marital fraud has taken place.
Despite your constant stance of "can't do it, you'll be deported", the fact remains that people can, and do, marry LEGALLY while on tourist visas and the vast majority will be able to adjust status without a problem.
Re: Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
Desagreeable , I have 10 years green card and i didn't understand what you were talking about , he is legally here on the tourist visa , non-expired ...so what problems it can cost us later ?
Re: Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
As I read it, your question is "Can my fiancé enter the country on a tourist visa, marry, then go home without overstaying his visa." Yes, consistent with the marriage laws of the state in which you intend to marry. Massachusetts seems pretty simple for you; some other states have residency requirements that could complicate things.
If your fiancé wants to complicate the sitatuion by overstaying after the marriage, you can clarify that you mean to include those issues in your question.
Re: Can a Permanent Resident Marry a Tourist
well...maybe i didn't explain correct. We want to marry now and he doesn't have interest to stay in USA, he wants that we together move to Portugal because he has there the house and his job , that is why i ask if we can marry here on his valid tourist visa in state of Rhode Island (if it is possible, if not then in Boston ) ? I am 10-years greencard holder, resident of Florida, he is a portugues, I am 34y.o, he is 30 y.o. and both of us never had any problems with the Law or migrations mistakes, we are together 1,5 year , i know all his family and they know me , so my family know him and we all very friendly and have really good connection.

Yes, you can get married whilst on a tourist visa.
